THE MARIANAS MEMORY VAULT ARCHIVES

Preserving the stories, struggles, and histories that shaped the Northern Mariana Islands.

This Northern Mariana Islands history preservation project was born in the wake of the publishing of Shadows in Paradise. I wanted it to be a central hub for as many historical stories and documents as possible, especially stories and documents involving the history discussed in the book. The Marianas Memory Vault Archives seeks to preserve these vital pieces of NMI history, especially the stories that either weren't told the first time around, or did get told, but were quickly swept under the rug and forgotten about. Please feel free to submit your contributions to the Archive below if you have a piece of NMI history that you want to be preserved online forever.

Help Us Remember the Forgotten Builders.

Are you a foreign worker of the CNMI? Submit your story below. All submissions are reviewed before publishing.

Please share your story below in as much detail as you’re comfortable providing. Tell us who you are, how you came to the CNMI, the work you did, how long you lived there, and the experiences that shaped your time on the islands—including any mistreatment you faced. If you have since left, tell us when and why, what leaving was like, where life took you, and what you are doing today.
If you are not one of the forgotten builders of the CNMI yourself, but are connected to them somehow and want to tell us your story, please feel free to share it with us too!
